Lavender Oaks - Colin's New Home

Dear Special Family Friends & Relatives of Betty, Benny & Colin

Colin Bocarro has been in the care of Lavender Oaks Care Home for only three days and already feel it was the best thing that could happen to him.

At his own home he was not coping, could not dress himself and his personal hygiene was becoming a serious problem and like most people we were terrified of him going into a home and the consequences it may bring, but since Sunday we feel that being in your care Colin will become a stronger happier person all round.

We cannot thank you enough for the wonderful, kind, and compassionate care you have given Colin from the minute he arrived on Sunday where he enjoyed a great dinner with a few family members and were very privileged to have Annie who provided us with her excellent service right through the evening. Your dedicated staff work so hard to ensure the residents feel its the closest thing to home they can provide.
Thank you seems hardly enough but we are very grateful to each and every one of your staff.  It’s an amazing care home with an amazing team!

Below are a few photographs taken on Sunday 14th October 2018.
Sorry photo quality poor as I only took my little pocket camera not expecting to take photographs on the first day.

Feel free to follow this blog spot where I will provide progress reports at frequent intervals. Also Lavender Oaks have a full weeks entertainment programme which I will post when possible.

Lindsay, special thanks to you and your wonderful team for all your help and support looking after Colin.

Very special thanks to Denzyl Sequeira for kindly introducing Lavender Oaks Home to Betty & myself.

We extend our special thanks to all our friends mentioned above who have encouraged us in deciding the safest place for Colin is Lavender Oaks Care Home where he will receive 24/7 care and attention looking after his health and safety.

PROGRESS REPORTS LISTED AT THE END.

Love and best wishes
Benny & Betty

MONDAY  16th OCTOBER 2018
Hi Benny,

That sounds very promising. I'm sure they'll be the odd wobble, but wobbles are allowed as long as they're handled the right way.

Fingers crossed he settles in and before you know it, that becomes his new routine. With dementia its really all about keeping a routine & basically them feeling comfortable about what's going on. From what Lindsay says it seems all on track, so lets hope its the start of a whole new chapter for him, and of course you and Betty too.

If there's anything I can ever help with, just let me know.

All the best, and well done for all your perseverance.

Neil

Colin enjoyed a good dinner and mixed with others making a couple of friends. He enjoyed a good beer with one of Lavender Oaks staff and is not talking of wanting to go home. Tomorrow morning we will be taking his BOSE music system and some of his CD's he enjoys.

WHAT’S NEW

NOTE FOR THE RECORD

Dear All,

Today Thursday 18 October Betty attended a meeting with Garett a Social Worker from Sutton Social Services firstly to discuss Colin’s welfare followed by a second meeting for Colin’s assessment where Colin was present together with a nurse from Lavender Oaks. I was present at the first meeting when Betty was asked questions about Colin.

It was a long meeting where the Social worker made it known to Colin the reason he was at Lavender Oaks Care Home. He mentioned to the Social Worker that he was aware he is in a Care Home and accepted the fact that he has Dementia when the told about his diagnosis.

Colin is very pleased with Lavender Oaks and is settling in well from what I have observed since Sunday. He enjoys his meals and the special attention he is getting from all the staff and has not mentioned about wanting to go back to Bryant Court but asked me to pick up a couple of things for him when I’m next there. He will now enjoy his lifelong passion for music as his BOSE system will be installed today together with a small collection of his CDs.

Yvette, David, Molly & Jacob May visit Colin

MONDAY 22ND OCTOBER 2018

Dear All,

Colin was happy to meet Yvette, Dadid, Molly, Jacob and Betty all enjoying a drink and chit chat. Molly and David cracking jokes making Colin laugh.

They all enjoyed being with Colin and equally Colin was pleased to meet the family members and wanted them to stay for dinner.

Update from Lavender Oaks Home is good as they say Colin is doing well.

A couple of photographs added below.

Best regards
Benny
