Hi Benny,

Don't know if you saw the Text I sent you from Lavender Oaks today?
When I was at the Home this afternoon, one of the Carers brought Colin to sit with us and I enjoyed talking to him.
He was going on that he doesn't have his cheque book. When I said why do you wanta cheque book when you get everything here? Well, he said, I might need to pay for a cab or if we go for Fish & Chips etc. I said don't worry -all that will be taken care of while you are here.
We then talked a lot about Zanzibar and his days there etc, and his working life here in the UK. He told me he travelled almost all over the world etc etc.
I found him very interesting. He also told me it is Betty's birthday tomorrow(so just in case I don't get down to sending a message - please wish Betty for me). He also said his is onthe 28th. He was talking quite normally.
Today Lavender Oaks were also having a party t celebrate their first anniversary. Elsie didn't feel to well to go upstairs, so we stayed behind; in any case, the music was too loud and it would make her headache worse.
He said he doesn't drive and had given his car to Betty.
Hope you are both well.
See you at the Home sometime?
Cheers and a Very Happy Birthday to Betty for tomorrow.

Mervyn

 Dear Eileen
See message below from Lindsay. Colin went out for Fish and Chips and enjoyed it.
Planning for the 27th November will commence and I have sent a message to book the private function room we used when we took Colin on the previous Sunday.
Wishing you all the best for Sunday and be assured all will be fine. We pray for your good health as you are very special.
Love Benny

Dear Lindsay
Wonderful news Colin went out for Fish & Chips and hope he gets involved in Scrabble or Crosswords. He was an expert on Crosswords and I am sure he will participate.
Just to make an advance booking. Colin's birthday is on the 28th November, but we would like to host a private party for Colin which has to be on a day before which is the 27th November as Eileen, Pam and Iris will join us and other members.
Appreciate if possible we could book the private room for Lunch, for about 12 to 14 people if this is ok.
Would very much like your chef to plan the menu if possible and no worries about the costs.
If you allow us to bring the drinks would be great and if not (depending on your rules), you provide and we will pay.
Will talk to you of the menu etc., and please confirm if this is possible.
Reviews will follow from family members and some very good friends who want to visit Colin but have asked them to hold back until we give the OK.
Thanking you.
Regards Benny

Betty & I had lunch with Colin which was great and Colin enjoyed a good chit chat. He never spoke of his home at Bryant Court nor mentioned any of his close friends in his complex.
He seems to enjoy his music and TV and has not taken part in other activities which I am sure he will soon.
He has had a hair cut and praises the young nurses all around him giving him first class attention at all times.

Your review for Lavender Oaks Care Home on carehome.co.uk (Review ID: 517376)
Thank you Benny - Colin went out for Fish and Chips today and enjoyed it was going to try and get him playing scrabble or crosswords with Beryl whom he met today too .
Lindsay

Thank you Benny hope to see you later.

I have printed some of the pictures from your Podcasts and asked our Leisure and Wellness Team to take them in to him today.  At 4pm Lorraine is doing 121’s so I have asked her to visit him then and give him the picture, and then discuss what activities he would like to do as he still seems to prefer the TV in his room.

I said Jazz Music, Jiving, talking about his family and life of which he is very proud of both, whiskey, travel, you said he likes the Darling Buds of May didn’t you, also discussed the evening activities again – these are driven by need and want, but Colin, Maureen and Heather in Butterfly would like something so hopefully we can find out from Colin today a few more things for him.  Does he like playing cards, quizzes?
Thank You Again Benny
Kind Regards
Lindsay

Dearest Betty and Ben,

Prayers have been answered thank the Lord.

Joe and I are delighted to know and see the photos of Colin being settled in Lavender Oaks. The place looks lovely and the care appears second to none. And it is so good that your family were so welcomed and allowed to spend time with Colin to make him feel so at home.

He is often in my prayers as you all are too.

Thank you for keeping us informed.

Love and God bless from Joe and I.

Louise

THURSDAY 18TH OCTOBER 2018

Dear All,

Today Thursday 18 October Betty attended a meeting with Garett a Social Worker from Sutton Social Services firstly to discuss Colin’s welfare followed by a second meeting for Colin’s assessment where Colin was present together with a nurse from Lavender Oaks. I was present at the first meeting when Betty was asked questions about Colin.

It was a long meeting where the Social worker made it known to Colin the reason he was at Lavender Oaks Care Home. He mentioned to the Social Worker that he was aware he is in a Care Home and accepted the fact that he has Dementia when the told about his diagnosis. An Advocate will also access Colin in due course which is a procedure with Care Homes.

Colin is very pleased with Lavender Oaks and is settling in well from what I have observed since Sunday. He enjoys his meals and the special attention he is getting from all the staff and has not mentioned about wanting to go back to Bryant Court but asked me to pick up a couple of things for him when I’m next there. He will now enjoy his lifelong passion for music as his BOSE system will be installed today together with a small collection of his CDs.

I will not send daily updates, and if an issue of great importance comes up, I will alert you on 'What's New' page.

P.S. Colin has already made new friends and looks forward to his big breakfast, lunch and dinners. Of course a glass of wine included.

Very 'Special Thanks'  to Denzyl Sequeira for kindly introducing Lavender Oaks Care Home to Betty and myself. Much appreciated and what a great home.

Best regards
Benny
